Grambling working on football again

Posted: Updated:
Grambling, LA -

The Grambling football team is again working on playing a football game and is happy to be doing so.  With the team trusting that the administration will indeed work on the many issues that forced the players to feel their only recourse was to walk out last week, it was back to practice on Wednesday.  With the players skipping last week's game at Jackson State and being forced to take bus rides of 17 hours and 14 hours each of the previous two games, this is the first time in a month the team has had any level of comfort.

Interim head coach Dennis "Dirt" Winston refuses to allow his team to make any excuses saying, "Excuses are for quitters."  Winston says his team is going to take the field Saturday against Texas Southern and plans to win the game.  No matter what happens, the events of the last week and a half will be no excuse.

Grambling is 0-8 on the season and has not beaten an NCAA team since winning the SWAC championship in 2011, but the match-up at Grambling on Saturday could be a good one.  Texas Southern comes in 1-6 with its only win over still winless Arkansas-Pine Bluff.  Winston says he expects a good crowd and a supportive crowd adding it will be High School Day and he expects the stands to be filled with high school students from around the area.

If a good crowd and a supportive crowd leads to a good game, one win could fix a lot of things in the short term.
