CADDO PARISH, La. -

The Caddo Parish School Board has selected Theodis Lamar Goree as the new Superintendent.

The board voted between three finalists Timothy Magner, Theodis Lamar Goree and Terrence A. Brown, for the position on Friday. The school board spent most of the week interviewing the finalists.

Timothy Magner received 6 votes, Theodis Lamar Goree received 5 votes and Terrence A. Brown received 1 vote.

The board then eliminated Terrence A. Brown and voted again between Magner and Goree; each candidate received 6 votes. In order for a Superintendent to be named, a candidate must receive 7 votes. As a result, the board was forced to convene in an executive session.

Afterwards, Magner stepped out of the race.  The board then voted again and Theodis Lamar Goree received 9 votes making him the new Superintendent.

"We really have a great school system that really truly deserved a great leader.  And I think we got that.  But I think there are some other winners too. Mr. Magner was one of them. That he was willing to be magnanimous and bow out to allow this district to move forward and I can't personally thank him enough," said Jackie Lansdale, President of Red River United.

Shreveport native, Theodis Lamar Goree, firmly believes that every child can learn and be successful.

"I'm interviewing for my dream job. I mean and I really do believe that every child, all 41,000 of them should have that opportunity. I started in the exact seat that they are sitting in and I want to make sure they all have that opportunity" says Goree.

Goree currently serves as Area Superintendent with Mansfield, Texas ISD and oversees 33,000 students. His anticipated start date is December 1, 2013.

In early spring, board members voted not to renew former Caddo Parish School Superintendent Dr. Gerald Dawkins' contract. Dawkins served the position for five years. His last day was on August 11, 2013.

The School Board named Dr. Mary Nash-Robinson as Interim Superintendent back in August after the board deadlocked on two candidates. Robinson was given the position under the condition that she not apply for the job again.
