Jackson State fans react to forfeited game against Grambling

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La. -

There's more fallout from the Jackson State University homecoming game that never happened.

JSU was in town Saturday for the Shreveport Classic game against Prairie View A & M University at Independence Stadium.

Jackson State says last Saturday's forfeited game against Grambling State cost the university $200,000 in just ticket sales alone, and that the total loss could creep into the millions.

The GSU football team boycotted the game, saying they were taking a stand to shed light on substandard locker room and equipment conditions on Grambling's campus.

Now Jackson State plans to take legal action against Grambling to recoup the loss.

JSU fans at the Shreveport Classic have mixed emotions about the Grambling players' actions.

"Well, we were very disappointed that they didn't show up because it was our homecoming. They're playing this week! I don't understand why the couldn't play last week! I can understand the problems they had, but I really think they should have showed up," says Alice Hutchins.

"I don't blame the players for doing what they're doing. If they're being the way they say they've been treated, they should. But he school out to be held responsible. I can say, Eddie Robinson out to be turning over in his grave," says another JSU fan Calvin Vance.

Grambling has since said that they're working to make improvements to the campus but funding remains a roadblock.

GSU's players ended the boycott Monday.
