Northwood High Girl Helps Friend Get on Homecoming Court

Sometimes it's hard to like us. The things we do to one another, well, it's hard to watch.

Then you see this, Owen Phrases elected Homecoming King in Kansas and Mariah Slick in Colorado. And, Ross Pineville, where the other team's coach let him score a goal. And last year, who can ever forget Madie Mercer at Benton, elected Senior Homecoming Maid, blowing kisses to a mom who could hardly believe.

Lisa Huddleston never thought it would happen either. Not the little girl who came into the world weighing 2 pounds 10 ounces. The one with problems in the brain that no one understood. The one who went into an operating room 13 times her first 14 months of life.

Well, Kelly functioned well enough to make enough friends to be elected Junior Class Homecoming Maid at Northwood High School.

There she was at the 50 yard line with a very proud papa right there with all the other girls, itching.

"How do you feel Kelly?"

"Good, starting to itch because of those mosquitos."

I always wondered why God made mosquitos. Kelly's parents are pretty sure He saved her life.

"One doctor would lead us to another doctor and we would find out he was a world class surgeon. Every doctor was like a gift from God."

Speaking of God, you do see don't you, times like this, those life moments that restore your faith in us.

Yep, I saw him a couple of Friday nights ago, right there with the mosquitoes in between the full back and the middle guard, in the eyes of a proud dad and a grateful mom.

"God has been good to us. He is the reason we are here today and we thank all these people for loving her and for loving us."

Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim is suggesting that workers shift to a three-day work week. The catch: He would require 11-hour work days and workers to stay on the job until age 70 or 75.
