Army Officer blames sex crimes on twin brother

Posted: Updated:
Texarkana, Texas -

A Colorado army officer accused in a string of sexual assault cases is now being linked to a case in Texarkana, Texas.

Authorities say several children, ranging in ages from 6 to 9 years old, are among his victims.

However, there's a twist in the case, the suspect is now saying his twin brother is to blame for the crimes.

Lt. Aaron Lucas allegedly tried to lure 11 girls into his car in Colorado, while stationed in Fort Carson, between 2009 and 2010.

Prosecutors say he assaulted three of them.

He's also been accused of rape in Texarkana, Texas.

Lucas' attorney is claiming his identical twin brother, Brian Lucas, is responsible for the sexual assaults.

Texarkana began their investigation in 2009.

"There was a young girl that was picked up off of West 15th street and eventually brought back to that location," said Sgt. Steve Shelley, Texarkana, Texas police officer. "she reported the crime to her parents."

Sgt. Shelley says evidence from the crime was placed in the DNA databank.

He says within the past year, they identified Aaron Lucas as a suspect.

He's wanted for indecency with a child and aggravated kidnapping.

Shelley says Lucas does not have ties to the area and the DNA evidence has been very important to the case.

Investigators is Colorado Springs say the crimes against the young girls started shortly after Lt. Lucas started service at Fort Carson and stopped when left for Afghanistan.

Right now, Brian Lucas has not been charged with a crime.

Police are working with the Bowie County District Attorney's office to get Lt. Lucas extradited back to Texas.

Alabama authorities say they also have a DNA link to lucas on a similar sexual assault case.

He's currently being held in El Paso County Jail in Colorado Springs.

If convicted, Lt. Lucas could face life in prison.

The brothers were born in July of 1981.

According to the Forensic Science Service, identical twins have the exact same DNA, but they do not have the same fingerprints.

Identical twins have the same DNA because they originate from the same egg, which divides into two embryos after it is fertilized.

They are always the same sex and have the same blood type.

Twins who are not identical do not carry the same DNA.
