City Officials Get Feedback on Zoning Issues

Posted: Updated:

City officials gathered today to hear concerns from people all across the city about zoning issues.

It's the first of a series of meetings to tackle the city Unified Development Code. That code is supposed to give clear rules for where businesses and homes can be throughout the city. For years, business and neighborhood developers have complained that the zoning rules are unclear thwarting development. City officials say, they have to fix the plan for further development in the city.

Dara Sanders, Master Plan Administrator said, "Right now it (the Unified Development Code) is outdated, it's dispersed throughout our various codes, and it's very difficult to understand, and it doesn't help us achieve the goals of our master plan."

Winzer Andrews, Chairman MPC Shreveport Caddo said, "We're trying to develop codes in the city that are user friendly. We're trying to get the neighborhoods to tell us what they want to see happen not only now, but for their children and their grandchildren that are coming along in the future."

If you missed out on Tuesday's meeting, don't worry, city officials plan to have other meetings to tackle the zoning issues throughout Shreveport. Stay with KTBS 3 News for the dates and times of those meetings when they are made available.
