Minden mayor celebrates first day in office

Posted: Updated:
CAMP MINDEN, La. -

It's a big day for Minden. The town's first elected new mayor in around 20 years started the job Wednesday.

Tommy Davis was elected mayor back during the October 19 election to serve the rest of the late Bill Robertson's term. He started the day early and held various meetings to get aquatinted with the city's departments, including water and sewer. Davis says he hopes to keep to his campaign promises and improve the city's water system but also create jobs.

"We not just looking for industrial jobs. We want just about any kind of job, but we think if we can get large industrial jobs here, they'll bring smaller jobs," Davis said. "It'll be good for every business in town."

Davis will have to run again in fall 2014 in order to be elected for a full term.

The tree sits in front of one of the oldest fire station built in bossier city on Barksdale Blvd. back in the early 1950's. The station has been abandoned for quite some time now but ther...
