SHREVEPORT, La. -

A local man is accused of cruelty to an animal after allegedly shooting a young girl's dog in front of her.

It happened around 4p.m. Saturday in the 500 block of Woodmere in Shreveport.

According to Shreveport Police, the 10-year-old girl was outside playing with her poodle when the dog ran into the yard of 75-year-old Clarence Dunivan.

Police say that's when Dunivan allegedly shot the poodle. Authorities say the girl removed the deceased dog from Dunivan's yard and took the animal home.

When officers arrived a small caliber handgun was recovered that detectives believed was used to kill the dog.

Dunivan was arrested on a charge of aggravated cruelty to animals and booked into Shreveport City Jail.
