Whole Foods in Shreveport could change area's lifestyle

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La. -

The announcement of the new Whole Foods Market in Shreveport got a lot of people excited Wednesday.

Kristina Bradford, the company's Louisiana Community Relations Coordinator, can not say how long the store here in Shreveport has been in the works, but said Thursday they only announce new stores at the end of the quarter when the lease was signed.

The whole community and their interest in us having a Whole Food Market and just that love of wanting us there, I would say, probably had some influence on that decision."

Bradford said the community's interest in natural and organic food is one of several factors Whole Foods takes in consideration when looking into a new city.

Explore yoga instructor Ashley Pennington was unsure if she would be able to keep her healthy lifestyle when she moved to the area three years ago.

"I've been able to do it, you just have to look a little harder, but I was able to keep that going. I was worried moving from Vegas."

Vegas already saw a healthy eating boom, but Pennington thinks this it could come to Shreveport soon. She sees new clients almost every class. Pennington hopes that increases even more once the new Whole Foods opens up.

"Once you start doing one thing healthy for yourself, you know eating good, healthy foods, fresh foods, it just kind of snowballs," Pennington said. You want to start to do more healthy things for yourself. I think that mind-body connection kind of takes over."

"It is about healthy eating education," said Bradford. "That is a work in progress. We're just helping to introduce people to ways to make better choices."

Whole Foods would also like to give people local choices. They want to put things created around here in the Shreveport store. If you have a product that you think belongs in a Whole Foods Market, email the company at louisianalocal@wholefoods.com.

We've been told by many veterans that they receive quality care at the V.A. hospital in Shreveport. But for some getting an appointment to see their caregivers is the challenge. According to our V.A., they do not have a problem getting patients seen quickly - and the numbers they report echo that conclusion. We’ve uncovered concerns, however, over how their numbers look so good - while patients are still waiting to be seen.“Certainly from my viewpoint here, as a veteran, as a physician, the c...
