Red River District revitalization

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La. -

Since it's opening about a decade ago the Red River District has seen its ups and downs.

Chris Anthony is polishing the brass door handles at his new business: Fully Stacked Bar and Grill.

"That's one part of the Navy I always hated: shining brass," Anthony says.

Anthony co-owns the latest restaurant to enter the Shreveport's Red River District with his business partner, Sal Mansor.

"We've heard a lot about some really good things that they're doing down here," Mansor says. "They're trying to rejuvenate it and everything, and we just want to be a part of it."

Fatty Arbuckle's and Nicky's Mexican Restaurant are two of the longer-standing fixtures. Co-habitat moved into a space this fall... complete with a full-size test kitchen.

The Fully Stacked guys hope the Free Fridays Forever concert series will bring foot traffic and spending money to the area.

The City of Shreveport and SPAR are on board. They're co-hosting the shows and say more events are in the works.

"[We] just to try to bring more people down into the Red River District, let them know about the great restaurants we have and really just learn how totally awesome the Red River District is and how we're changing it for the better," SPAR's Catherine Kennedy says.
