Dumb Criminals In The ArkLaTex

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT - BOSSIER CITY -
Sometimes criminals do dumb things while doing serious crimes.  The ArkLaTex has its share of dumb criminals.  Take, for example, 23-year-old Richard Boudreaux.  Surveillance cameras caught him wandering through his old job at Kenny's Seafood in Slidell, LA, with a bucket on his head.  He was attempting to rob the place.  Police found out later he forgot a mask and was using the bucket to hide his face.  Apparently it didn't work.

Caddo Crime Stoppers Director and Shreveport police officer James Taliaferro has looked at numerous videos looking for the bad guys, but sometimes he says the criminals are offered up on a silver platter--like the case of armed robber Jared Gipson.

In June of 2005, Gipson decided to rob Blalocks, a beauty school in Shreveport.  Instead of robbing the place, Gipson got jumped by all of the workers and students.  He ended up having to be taken to the hospital with numerous cuts and bruises.
"The point is these are just opportunity crimes, and a lot of times these criminals don't give too much forethought to what they are doing," says Taliaferro.
The story about Gipson received nationwide attention and he was dubbed "world's dumbest" by Tru Tv's show "World's Dumbest."

Taliaferro admits that not all dumb criminals get caught, even when cameras catch a glimpse of their face.  He points out a criminal that cameras caught robbing Bailey's Bark on St. Vincent in Shreveport.  Police are still looking for the guy.
