Alabama used trickery to down LSU

Posted: Updated:
Tuscaloosa, Al -

Alabama head coach Nick Saban is not known for his trickery, unlike his coaching counterpart in Saturday night's LSU-Bama game, Les Miles.  Normally, it's Miles who reaches into his mad hat for some trick plays and fakes, but not this time around.

LSU only trailed by 3 at halftime and Colby Delahoussaye booted a field goal on the opening drive of the second half to knot it up at 17 in the 3rd.  The purple and gold looked like they had a little steam, keeping it close with the Tide.

On Alabama's ensuing drive, LSU's defense put up a big stop on 3rd and 1 to force a punt, or at least that's what they wanted the Bayou Bengals to think.

The fake punt for the first down may be called a trick play, but to the guy who dialed it up, it was just another play in the playbook.  It took the wind out of LSU's sails and changed the momentum into Alabama's direction.
