CENTER, Tx. -

Shelby County Today is reporting that a head-on collision occurred on SH 7 East near Airport Road on Tuesday around 9:30 a.m. The crash involved a Ford F-150 Crew cab pickup that was traveling east on SH 7 and a Smith Wrecker Service flatbed tow truck driven by Matt Smith of Joaquin. The tow truck was traveling west on SH 7 heading towards Center, Texas when the F-150 reportedly crossed the center line and struck Smith head-on. Smith's tow truck flipped over and came to a rest on its top.

The F-150 spun around and came to a rest facing south and burst into flames. The Center Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the vehicle which still had a female passenger inside.

The female was removed from the vehicle by firefighters and ACE EMS. She was treated at the scene then transported to Nacogdoches Hospital with what are described to be serious injuries. Matt Smith received minor injuries and was transported to Nacogdoches Memorial by ACE EMS. The driver of the F-150 was pronounced dead at the scene and was taken to Watson and Sons Funeral Home. The names of the two occupants of the F-150 have not been released.

Traffic was stopped in both directions while crews worked to clean up the wreckage. As of noon, traffic was still down to only one lane.

The accident is still under investigation.

We've been told by many veterans that they receive quality care at the V.A. hospital in Shreveport. But for some getting an appointment to see their caregivers is the challenge. According to our V.A., they do not have a problem getting patients seen quickly - and the numbers they report echo that conclusion. We’ve uncovered concerns, however, over how their numbers look so good - while patients are still waiting to be seen.“Certainly from my viewpoint here, as a veteran, as a physician, the c...
