The Caddo makeover plan and addressing other failing schools were on the menu Tuesday, as the local NAACP hosted a breakfast meeting at the Downtown Shreveport Hotel.

"We've seen so many of our failing schools on our side of the track in the community, so this gives us an opportunity to ask questions and get answers from one of the members that will be voting on the plan that will be coming to the State Department of Education, " said President Lloyd Thompson.

The group welcomed District 4 BESE board leader Walter Lee, for what turned out to be a conversation on the future plan to rescue Midway and Atkins Elementary schools and Woodlawn and Fair Park High Schools, all of them have failed to make sufficient academic progress.

Lee recognized the Caddo RSD plan may require some adjustments but it is for the most part a good plan. By most accounts, the biggest issue facing the district now is other schools on the verge of receiving an "F" status, and that was made clear at the breakfast.
"We are really talking about children, they are only going to grow up one time. So a failing school really represents children not getting help where they need it," said Lee.

Lee also voiced  strong approval for the new superintendent Dr.Theodis Lamar Goree, saying he  is young bright and energetic.

The media will have an opportunity to speak with the newly elected chief of Caddo Schools Wednesday, before his first day on the job.
