Gene Stallings, still on a Roll

Posted: Updated:
BOSSIER CITY, La -

In the more than 30 years since the legendary Bear Bryant stepped down at Alabama, only two coaches have been able to succeed in the bear's imposing shadow.  Nick Saban, of course and.. Gene Stallings.

Stallings was in Bossier City Tuesday night speaking to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Founders Award banquet, but he has had both eyes on the Crimson Tide.

It was Stallings who won Alabama's first national championship of the post-Bear era and is thrilled with the job Nick Saban is doing now.  Stallings says he loves the way the Crimson Tide players d not celebrate excessively, but act like they've been there before, get up and go for another.  Stallings praised the game day experience in Tuscaloosa, but also spoke highly of Baton Rouge and LSU.  The former Alabama coach believes college football is in as good a place as it's ever been.

Stallings has been involved with the FCA for a long time and he says the longest continuous chapter of FCA is at... The University of Alabama.
