CADDO PARISH, La. -

Dr. Lamar Goree is preparing to take the reins as new superintendent of Caddo Schools

The Shreveport native comes back to the area from the Mansfield, Texas ISD, where he is currently working as area superintendent.

Goree is less than a month away from moving into his new role as superintendent for Caddo , he sees the new job of overseeing 41,000 students in his hometown as an honor.

The newly elected chief arrives as the school district struggles to save five under performing schools.

Overall, there are 10 more schools that could face a similar fate.  Add to that, ongoing budget issues that includes a dwindling reserve fund.

"We are approaching an agreement with the RSD that will be collaborative.   We will walk to the BESE board in full agreement of the best use of our facilities," said Goree.

Goree hopes to  implement the state's new Common C.O.R.E. standards, which is nationwide academic goals to measure student success.

"We will develop a curriculum to support our teachers in the classroom, and that will be one of the first charges as the chief academic officer to facilitate, that we do want our teachers to feel extremely supported," said Goree.

One of his many goals for the district is conducting inventories of current academic lesson plans to ensure students are receiving the best education.

"I  want to see the kids in Caddo Parish chase their wildest dreams no matter what they are," said Goree.

Dr. Goree's wife is a high school counselor. The couple have a son and a daughter who will enter Caddo schools at the start of the new year.

Goree will replace Dr. Mary Nash Robinson who was named Interim Superintendent of Caddo schools when Dr.Gerald Dawkin's contract was not renewed.

His three year contract with the district begins December 1, 2013 with a $200,000 a year salary.
