Athlete of the Week: North DeSoto's Damien Boone

Posted: Updated:
STONEWALL, La -

North DeSoto started out the year on a rocky 1-4 start, but the Griffins were resilient and finished the season with 5 straight victories for second place in the district.  The Griffs didn't have very much experience returning so head coach Scott Abernathy had to rely on a few senior with starting experience to rally his troops.

He went to his go-to guy for just about everything on the football field, two sport star and our Rountree Ford Athlete of the Week Damien Boone.

It came to the Fair Park's last drive in Griffin Stadium and North DeSoto head coach Scott Abernathy knew his team needed a big stop.  With the Indians threatening to score, his senior defensive leader Damien Boone answered the call.

That wasn't the first time Abernathy relied on the Griffin linebacker.  Boone's sheer physical talent has also made him a jack of all trades for North DeSoto.  And Boone works hard in school, maintaining a 3.7 GPA and enjoys applying what he's learned on both the football field and in ROTC: to lead by example and become a better person.

Boone and the rest of the North DeSoto Griffins are now prepping for the first round of the class 4A playoffs.  They travel to Rayne on Friday night.
