Bulldogs on high carb diet; get Rice

Posted: Updated:
RUSTON, La -

Louisiana Tech game at Rice on Saturday could become the turning point on whether or not the Bulldogs qualify for a bowl game.  Tech has rebounded to win three of its last four games to bring the record to 4-5.  Turnovers have been a key.  In the Bulldogs four wins they have a plus-4 advantage in turnover margin.  In the five losses they are minus-6.

Head coach Skip Holtz knows he's facing a tough challenge. "When you look at this Rice team, it starts on the defensive side of the ball. They have the number two scoring defense in the league. They are a very aggressive defense."  Holtz sees turnovers as a main reason Rice has a winning record and has already qualified for a bowl game. "One of the reasons they are 6-3 and having the success they are having is they are the number one team in the league in turnover margin, they are plus six. I think that is huge for Rice right now. We are going to have to do a great job of protecting the ball."

With 2-8 Tulsa up next for Tech, get a win Saturday at Rice and the game with Tulsa would be for bowl eligibility.
