Coushatta man dies from 60 ft. tree fall

Posted: Updated:
NATCHITOCHES PARISH, La. -

A Red River Parish man was killed this morning, after falling approximately 60 ft. from a tree he was cutting near Natchitoches, according to Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Victor Jones Jr.

Anthony "Lane" Wilson, 51, of the 100 block of Earl's Garden Road, Coushatta, La., was pronounced dead on the scene by the Natchitoches Parish Coroner's Office.

On Saturday morning, Wilson was cutting limbs off of a tree that he and his brother were preparing to cut for a landowner in the 100 block of Mister Ed Lane near Natchitoches, when the safety rope attached to his waist apparently broke causing him to fall.

The 60 ft. fall caused fatal injuries according to eye witnesses on the scene.

Deputies said when they arrived the landowner was providing CPR on the victim until Natchitoches EMS Paramedics arrived.

The Natchitoches Parish Coroner's Office has sent the body for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Wilson was a prior native of Provencal, La.

Lt. Layne LaCaze, Deputy Thomas Freeman, Detective Jonathan Byles, Natchitoches EMS Paramedics and the Natchitoches Parish Coroner's Office responded to the scene.
