Stuti Jawahar's miraculous recovery

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La -

Her story captured the heart of the Ark La Tex. Back in January on a cold, icy morning, Stuti Jawahar never made it to school. Her SUV slipped off the road and into a pole nearly killing the high school senior.

For three months, Stuti lay in a coma with extensive brain damage. Doctors thought she may never walk or talk again.

But, she is proving everyone wrong.

At first glance, Stuti Jawahar is another young college freshman sitting in a class just like hundreds of others in Shreveport.

This class just happens to be psychology, connecting with the deepest parts of the human brain. It's a subject that hits close to home for Stuti and her family.

"We didn't know if Stuti would come out of a coma much less graduate and start college with the rest of her friends in the regular fall semester,' said her father Ajay Jawahar.

After laying in a coma for nearly three months, Stuti's brother carried her across the high school graduation stage in May. Phased by nothing, she spoke that day.

Six months later and Stuti's recovery is remarkable.

"It's hard but I"am getting better every day," said Stuti.

Stuti is a miracle and a future lawyer in the making.

"I want to be a lawyer because I love to argue. So I am studying pre-law," said Stuti.

She attends college classes in the morning and then goes to sessions at Learning RX to improve her memory and brain patterns.

With each session she can remember more. Stuti is reconnecting the parts of her brain that were damaged in the crash.

"When she first came to us, Stuti couldn't even remember what she had for dinner the night before," said Sara Antone with Learning RX.

Stuti is also learning to walk and run again. Brewer's Physical Therapy is working with her on an anti-gravity treadmill.

"She is receiving assistance in getting from class to class at school. Our goal is to help her become independent again," said Amanda Brewer.

"My hope is that she can be an inspiration. With God anything is possible," said Ajay.

With a rise in online classes, many educational institutions are asking the question, how can they maintain academic integrity in the digital age. More and more students are getting educated through online sources, to match courses to their busy schedules, avoid long commutes or to save money. "Well, people who are local to the Shreveport area, they have the option of coming in and actually taking the exam at an assigned time. They don't have to pay for the exam.
