40 warrants issued for drugs in Sabine, DeSoto Parishes

SABINE, DESOTO, RED RIVER PARISHES (KTBS) -

Drug outfits in DeSoto and Sabine Parishes may have been disrupted after the Tri-Parish Narcotics Task Force rounded up suspected narcotics dealers.

One by one, alleged drug dealers are escorted in to the Sabine Parish Detention Center to be booked early Wednesday morning.

"It's lower-level, street level guys that a lot of them have other jobs, but they're selling drugs on the side," said Sabine Parish Sheriff Ronnie Richardson. "We're just trying to put a little dent in their operation."

Each charged with at least one count of distribution of either: marijuana, crack cocaine, methamphetamine or prescription drugs. Of the 20 arrest warrants issued for the round up, 17 have been served in Sabine Parish.

But that's not all the officers found.

"Quite a bit of money," said Richardson. "They just came in with about $5,000 cash that one of them had on him. Some automatic weapons. It's starting out pretty good."

The majority of the arrest warrants issued in Sabine Parish were for people who live in the city limits of Many. It's an issue Mayor Ken Freeman and the city works to solve.

"Citizens, the city council and I have become very interested," said Freeman. "We have provided money, staff and assisting our sheriff and their very difficult task in trying to protect our citizens from this growing danger."

The Sabine Parish Sheriff's Office continues to work on serving the last three warrants issued for this round up.

There was a similar operation in DeSoto Parish. They've served 16 of their 20 arrest warrants so far, and more arrests are pending.
