"Luke"-ing good: Saints not sleeping on Seattle

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La -

The Saints have had a rare weekend off as they get ready for a major showdown in Seattle next Monday night.  New Orleans won in Atlanta last Thursday night to run their record to 9-2.  With the Seahawks at 10-1, they hold a one game lead over the Saints for the best record in the NFC.

The Saints lead in the NFC South is just one game over the suddenly surging Panthers who have won seven in a row and New Orleans will face Carolina twice in three weeks after the Seahawks.  Saints back-up quarterback Luke McCown, who was home in the Ark-La-Tex over the weekend, says he and his teammates are not looking ahead.  McCown says they have to focus on the game in front of them because if they start looking two or three games ahead, the landscape of those standings could be completely different when those games get played.  The only way the Saints can ensure they stay ahead of Carolina in the division is to win the next game.

Since that comes against the Seahawks, Saints fans can think about how a win in Seattle next Monday would give New Orleans a leg up in the race for the one-seed in the NFC playoffs.  Then comes the first of two with Carolina the following Sunday which network TV has already "flexed" to Sunday night prime time.
