Morgan City man booked in 1994 rape, kidnapping

Posted: Updated:

A 39-year-old Morgan City man suspected of kidnapping and raping a 41-year-old Iberville Parish woman in 1994 was arrested and booked after his DNA matched evidence from the crime.

Sheriff Brett Stassi tells The Advocate Bernie Metrejean was linked to the nearly 20-year-old crime after he was arrested in St. Mary Parish on drug charges.

Stassi said investigators believe Metrejean allegedly abducted and raped the woman, who is now 60 years old, on Nov. 15, 1994 while she was walking up the street to a neighborhood store.

Metrejean was booked into the Iberville Parish Jail on Monday night for aggravated rape and aggravated kidnapping.

It was unclear whether he has an attorney.

It appears the City of Shreveport can move forward with the most pressing bond issues without Grigsby and Associates. Instead they are using in-house staff with the assistance of bond counsel which are made up of local attorneys.
