Gilmer man indicted on Capital Murder charge in death of woman at Buckeye Stadium

GILMER, Tx. (KYTX) -

An Upshur County Grand Jury has indicted 32-year-old Jonathan Ray Shepherd on a Capital Murder charge in connection with the September shooting death of 29-year-old Cheyenne Green, of Gilmer.

Shepherd was indicted November 26,2013 and remains jailed in Upshur County on a $1,000,000 bond.

The murder happened back on September 26, 2013 at Buckeye Stadium in Gilmer. Witnesses reported seeing a white female lying on the ground near a vehicle. Gilmer Police soon discovered that the victim, 29 year-old Cheyenne Green, was deceased. The initial investigation which was conducted by members of the Gilmer Police Department, Upshur County Sheriff's Office and Department of Public Safety, revealed that Green had suffered a gunshot wound. Her body was sent to Southeast Texas Forensic Center in Tyler, Texas for autopsy. The official cause of death have not yet been released to the public.

Gilmer Police arrested Jonathan Ray Shepherd around 2:45 a.m. the morning following Green's death. No other suspects are believed to be involved in the murder and no students or faculty from Gilmer High School were involved or injured. Police believe the murder stemmed from domestic violence.
