Pryor runs new Bible-themed ad

Posted: Updated:
Texarkana, AR -

The campaign for the 2014 senate seat in Arkansas started with a series of attack ads, but as the holiday season is in full swing, both sides are changing their tune.

While Senator Mark Pryor has a new ad that airs Wednesday highlighting his belief in God, his challenger GOP Congressman Tom Cotton is airing an ad that features his mom and his military service.

"I'm not ashamed to say, I believe in God and I believe in his word," Pryor says in the 30-second ad.

With a bible is his hands, he declared his christian values and faith in scripture.

"This is my compass, my North Star. It gives me comfort and guidance to do what's best for Arkansas."

While Republicans have criticized him for his ties to Obama, from the beginning, Pryor has been stressing his independence and putting Arkansas first.

He's considered the most vulnerable senate Democrat in the 2014 elections.

Both Pryor and his challenger, GOP Congressman Tom Cotton have had a series of attack ads run throughout the campaign.

Now, even Cotton is showing more holiday spirit.

His latest ad features his mother, Avis Cotton, in front of a Christmas tree talking about her son's military service.

"We need people in Washington to do the hard things, that's the only way to make things right," says Avis Cotton in the political ad.

Meanwhile, the National Republican Senatorial Committee said Pryor's recent ad contradicts a statement the two-term senator made last year, when he said the bible "Is really not a rulebook for political issues" and that "Everyone can see it differently."

Cotton's senate campaign denounced their attack on Pryor's faith, calling their statement incredibly bizarre and offensive.

While Christmas themes are not unusual in campaigns ads, this Arkansas senate campaign may likely to be one of the nation's top races next year.

Arkansas gave President Obama just 37 percent of its vote in 2012 and has trended sharply away from democrats in the last decade.

Polling indicates the race between Cotton and Pryor will be tight.

We've been told by many veterans that they receive quality care at the V.A. hospital in Shreveport. But for some getting an appointment to see their caregivers is the challenge. According to our V.A., they do not have a problem getting patients seen quickly - and the numbers they report echo that conclusion. We’ve uncovered concerns, however, over how their numbers look so good - while patients are still waiting to be seen.“Certainly from my viewpoint here, as a veteran, as a physician, the c...
