Governor Jindal attends ribbon cutting ceremony of Armed Forces Reserve Center

Posted: Updated:
CAMP MINDEN, La. (KTBS) -

Governor Jindal was in town Wednesday. He flew into the town of Minden for a special ribbon cutting ceremony at Camp Minden.

He and many local leaders and Army officials commemorated the opening of the new Armed Forces Reserve Center at Camp Minden. Of course, Camp Minden has become synonymous with the infamous bomb recycling plant explosion that rocked the base last October. The Governor fielded questions about what went wrong and says the Army should take some of the blame and should pay for part of the cleanup.

"What was supposed to happen, what the company said they were going to do was to send the material to Kentucky to process it there. Clearly they weren't doing that. They were just stockpiling it so it's unacceptable that the Army continued sending those materials and continued to allow them to stockpile here creating this dangerous situation" says Governor Bobby Jindal.

Six workers, including two company owners of Explo, have been charged in the Camp Minden explosion. The Governor says the cleanup of the Camp Minden explosion site will be handled by the EPA starting the first week of January.
