SPD: Six teen suspects responsible for 60 car burglaries

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La. -

Shreveport police say the arrests of six teenage boys has closed more than sixty open cases, and investigators expect to arrest one more person for a string of car burglaries.

"They are not letting go of this," says SPD's Bill Goodin. "They are still working on this so they're not going to leave any stone unturned as they move forward bringing those responsible for these crimes to justice."

Nov. 13 SPD arrested Jacody Wilson, Fabian Alexander and Kentravious Hardison after a patrol officer spotted one of the 18-year-olds acting suspicious after dark.

Two days later, SPD announced another arrest: Ladarren Winbush. A minor was arrested for a delinquent act Nov. 26, and SPD picked up DeVante Abbington Nov. 27.

Detectives say they believe the young men were working- sometimes together- to break into cars in South Highlands and other neighborhoods. Detectives say since the burglaries began, they've had reports of missing money, electronics and guns.

"It may have been different groups of people at different times, but we do believe all these crimes were connected," Goodin says.

At least one victim believes his property was sold on the street, and Goodin says there are some recovered items that they can't link to anyone.

Police collected some of the stolen items, but they may be held in the property room as evidence.

"We work for the victim," Goodin says. "We want to bring the people to justice and then whatever property was stolen, we want to see that remanded to the rightful owner."
