Man pleads guilty to receiving child porn

Posted: Updated:

A Downsville man faces up to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to receiving child pornography.

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Louisiana says 33-yeaer-old Randy A. Powell, who was arrested in October, pleaded guilty Tuesday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Karen L. Hayes to receiving child pornography.

The New-Stars reports sentencing is set for April 7.

According to evidence presented at the guilty plea, Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office deputies learned that Powell, who is a registered sex offender, was maintaining social media accounts under an alias, which is a violation of his sex offender registration requirements.

Authorities arrested Powell on Feb. 23 and searched his home.

As you pack a lunch for today, keep this in mind. If you plan to eat peaches, nectarines, or plums, they may not be safe. There's a major fruit recall due to fears of a foodborne illness that is affecting some major grocery stores.
