No charges filed against Shreveport Police Officer in deadly shooting

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTBS) -

The District Attorney's Office says there will be no criminal charges filed against a Shreveport Police Officer who fatally shot a man.

RELATED STORY: One man dead after SPD officer involved shooting

It happened back in October in the 500 block of Americana near Horton Avenue and Lovers Lane near Dixie Gardens. Police say 58 year-old John Shepherd became combative with first responders who were there to treat his medical issues. That's when authorities arrived on scene and say Shepherd advanced on officers while armed with a knife.

After several repeated demands for Shepherd to stop, Officer Tucker fired a single shot hitting Shepherd in the upper body. Shepherd was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

According to a release from the DA's Office, the incident was all caught on police dash cam video. The audio on the recording also confirmed the multiple verbal commands issued by Tucker to Shepherd. Six Shreveport Fire Department personnel and several neighbors gave witness reports confirming how the incident happened.
