New Orleans, La. -

Kendrick Jackson's fumble recovery in the end zone proved to be the game-winner as top-seeded Haynesville defeated Mangham 42-21 to capture the 2013 LHSAA Class 1A State Championship on Friday afternoon.

A punt by Haynesville was downed at the Mangham 1-yard line in the third quarter. On the next play, Kendrick Jackson forced and recovered a fumble in the end zone for the game-winning touchdown. James Jackson scored two late touchdowns for Haynesville and Tyus Early added another to put the game out of reach.

Haynesville fell behind early in the second quarter after a 26-yard touchdown run by Mangham's Dekemeyon Weeks. The Golden Tornado would score the next 14 points thanks to a four-yard touchdown run by Early and James Jackson to push back on top 21-14.

Refusing to go away quietly against a heavily favorite Haynesville squad, Mangham (11-3) answered on the opening possession of the third quarter with a 10-play 64-yard drive that culminated in a two-yard touchdown run by Weeks to tie the game at 21.

The win for the Golden Tornado (14-0) is the 16th overall state football championship for the North Louisiana program, second only to John Curtis' 26 state championships in the Louisiana record books.
