No Brown out yet at Texas

Posted: Updated:
AUSTIN, Texas -

The drama that has been unfolding all week in Texas took a new turn  Friday night when Nick Saban agreed to a new contract to keep him at Alabama.

The Texas football banquet was held tonight and Mack Brown met with university president Bill Powers and new athletic director Steve Patterson today, but no change in Brown's status. Several media reports say the Texas coach is fighting to keep his job.  A close friend of Brown's tells KTBS 3 Sports Saban's new deal gives brown more leverage.

Texas football coach Mack Brown closed his annual team banquet without addressing his future with the Longhorns.

In a short, upbeat speech, Brown acknowledged "distractions" for his 8-4 team, but stayed away from any hint of whether or not he'll return to the Longhorns after his 16th season.

Brown met with school President Bill Powers and athletic director Steve Patterson before the banquet. Patterson declined to say what was discussed or if any conclusion had been reached.

The Longhorns will face Oregon in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 30 in San Antonio.
