Legislative audit for Walter Lee

Posted: Updated:

A new report from the Louisiana Legislative auditor details how thousands of taxpayer dollars were misspent. And it points the finger at former Superintendent Walter Lee.

It's all outlined in a 16-page report of the Legislative audit for Walter Lee.

State auditors say Lee received more than $13,000 in travel expenses that he was not entitled to.

The district also shelled out nearly $11,000 after Lee ended a lease agreement on a vehicle early. Lee later bought that car at a discount.

And the district didn't provide documentation to justify the pay raises lee received during his 13 years as superintendent.

Lee's salary went from just under $71,000  to more than $240-thousand dollars by the time he left last year.

Lee referred our questions to his lawyer, who has yet to review the document.

In the meantime, the results of the investigation have been referred to the DeSoto DA's office and the U.S. Attorney's office to determine if lee will face criminal charges.
