EAST TEXAS -

We have reached title week in Texas and only 44 miles separate the two towns squaring off in the Class 3A Division I state championship.  Carthage and Kilgore is an old-standing East Texas rivalry but they haven't played each other since 2009.  Friday's afternoon showdown will be the 49th meeting between these Bulldogs and Bulldogs.

It's hard to find a weakness on either of these teams.  Carthage knows if it wants to add another title to its recent dynasty, stopping Kilgore's running game is key.  Kilgore has averaged over 490 yards on the ground against their last 3 playoff opponents.

And Carthage is aware of Kilgore's tough defense which held last year's state champs high scoring Stephenville, to just six points.  There is a mutual respect as Kilgore knows they'll have their hands full with Carthage's well-balanced offensive attack, which is averaging over 44 points per game.

Carthage also has a strong senior class who's ready to take their time in the championship spotlight.  And Coach Mike Wood hopes his bruising rushing attack will help with that job.  But he also knows his Bulldog defense is no slouch.  They're holding opponents in the playoffs to just over 12 points per game.
