CHRISTUS Health unveils "Phase Two" of transition

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La. -

CHRISTUS Health broke ground Thursday on a new Specialty Care Center.

It's part of phase two in the transition from the historic Schumpert campus to the Highland Medical Center on Bert Kouns.

The Specialty Care Center will be built at the old Luby's building across the street from the Highland Medical Center.

It will take about six months to complete before employees move over from Schumpert this summer.

The center will house the CHRISTUS breast care center, wound care center and PET imaging all under one roof.

"We're just really excited about having the new facility and to be close to the hospital, so that we can provide all services close to one campus," said Dr. Mark Kraemer.

COO William Lunn said the phase will include a new parking lot on the back side of the Highland Campus and renovations and expansions inside the main hospital.

"We're refurbishing medical office building 1. We're building a state of the art cardiology office and that will free up the third floor so we can locate some new docs on our campus," said Lunn.

As for the Schumpert campus, it is still open for patients.

Teams will move over from Schumpert as space becomes available at Highland.

"This is all choreographed by our architects and by our leadership to be able to complete space and then get those teams moved over so we can start taking care of patients over here," said Lunn.
Phase three of the CHRISTUS transition will kick off in January.

Lunn said that project includes a new building attached to the Highland campus called the West Wing.

That will house a new cancer center, an expanded birthplace, a neonatal intensive care unit, rehab and physical therapy services.
