Carthage's Tevin Pipkin took over in second half

Posted: Updated:
ARLINGTON, Texas -

Carthage continued their East Texas football legacy Friday when they downed Kilgore in a battle of the Bulldogs for the Class 3A Division I state championship, their 4th title in 6 years.  The Bulldogs looked primed for the win when they led Kilgore 28-10 in the 3rd quarter, but it became a dog fight fast as Kilgore mounted a comeback.

Following an Aaron Foy interception, Kilgore made the score 28-23 on a Kevrin Justice touchdown.  But Carthage said they weren't there to come in second place.  The Bulldogs workhorse Tevin Pipkin had a monstrous second half.  On the final drive of the night, a 19 yard physical run set up a game-sealing 24 yard touchdown run.

Pipkin ends his Carthage career with 5,465 yards, breaking legendary Bulldog running back Kris Brigg's all-time record by over 300 yards.  He rushed for 2,113 in 2013.
