3 children die in Houma mobile home fire

Posted: Updated:

A fire in a mobile home has killed three children and left their father with serious burns.

Mike Delaune of the state Fire Marshal's Office says that a 12-year-old girl, an 11-year-old boy and a 9-year old boy died in the fire at the Whispering Oaks Trailer Park.

The Houma Courier says the fire was reported about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The children's father rescued one child who survived, but was unable to get the other three.

The father was taken to a burn unit in Baton Rouge with burns on his arms.

Investigators haven't determined the fire's cause.

Eight people were inside the trailer because the children and their parents were visiting for Christmas. No other occupants were injured. Authorities aren't releasing the names of any of the occupants.
