Texas official holds town hall meeting on quakes

Posted: Updated:

A member of the Texas Railroad Commission wants to hear from the public about a series of minor earthquakes in Parker County.

Commissioner David Porter will host a town hall meeting starting at 5 p.m. CST Thursday at Azle (AY'-zil) High School in Azle. The commission regulates oil and gas operations.

Authorities are trying to figure out what's been causing the earthquakes in an area about 20 miles northwest of Fort Worth. Officials recorded more than a dozen small quakes in November and several more in December.

The Tarrant Regional Water District has requested advice from experts, including the U.S. Geological Survey, about the quakes. Inspections have been done on Eagle Mountain Reservoir, as a precaution, to check for cracks or other possible damage.

Drivers would have to secure dogs riding in truck beds while on interstate highways, if the Senate agrees to a bill backed by the House. The House voted 53-34 Tuesday to pass the proposal by Republican Rep. Thomas Willmott, of Kenner. Drivers could secure dogs with a crate, leash or a ventilated bed cover, under the bill.
