Posted: Updated:

Walker police are investigating its first homicide in years after a woman's body was found New Year's Day inside a gated community home.

Capt. John Sharp says the woman, described as in her mid-30s, was found at about noon Wednesday with apparent gunshot wounds inside a home in the Village Maison Townhomes.

Sharp says police are waiting to release the woman's name pending notification of her family.

There are several people of interest in the homicide investigation, but police have not identified any suspects.

Sharp says police are looking for the woman's car, which is missing from the home.

Investigators believe the woman was dead for at least 12 hours before she was found.
