DeSoto parish woman arrested in theft scheme

Posted: Updated:
NATCHITOCHES PARISH -

Natchitoches parish sheriff's have arrested a DeSoto parish woman in connection with a theft scheme near Natchitoches.

Back in November police responded to a reported theft in the 100 block of Tom Prudhomme road  south of Natchitoches.

When they arrived the male victim told police he was robbed by a woman he'd met through a social networking site.

The man admitted to picking the woman up to stay with him after they'd communicated online.
He told officers when he fell asleep she ran off with several of his possessions.
The woman he accused of stealing his things was identified as 20 year old Jamie Howard.

The victim claims some time during the night Howard ran off with his 2000 Cadillac Deville, 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe, two computers, and several other electronics.

A tip following a month long search led to her arrest.
She was booked in the Natchitoches Detention Center on one count of felony theft, and two counts of felony theft of motor vehicles.

The 2000 Cadillac Deville was the only item recovered by investigators.
It was found abandoned near a motel on Alameda road.

Detectives say they believe more than one person participated in the theft.
The investigation is still ongoing.

With a rise in online classes, many educational institutions are asking the question, how can they maintain academic integrity in the digital age. More and more students are getting educated through online sources, to match courses to their busy schedules, avoid long commutes or to save money.
