1 found dead in Little Rock apartment fire

Posted: Updated:

Emergency officials say one person has died in a fire at a Little Rock apartment complex.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that firefighters responded to the fire shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday. Fire department officials say they found a woman dead in the bedroom of a first-floor unit.

Little Rock Fire Department Capt. Jason Weaver says the fire appears to have originated in the unit where the woman was found. The blaze then spread up the north side of the building to two second-floor units, one of which was vacant. No other injuries were reported.

Weaver says firefighters contained the fire in about 10 minutes, but flames and smoke caused significant damage to the building.

Neither the victim's identity nor her cause of death were immediately available.
