Oh mercy, it's Percy

Posted: Updated:
Renton, WA -

Wide receiver Percy Harvin will play for the Seattle Seahawks in Saturday's NFC divisional playoff game against the New Orleans Saints after missing most of the regular season following hip surgery.

Seattle coach Pete Carroll said after practice Thursday that Harvin would play. Carroll said there would be no limitations on how they can use Harvin, including being used on kickoff returns.

Harvin has played in just one game this season, in Week 11 against Minnesota, after undergoing surgery to repair the labrum in his hip in early August. Harvin said there were a couple of setbacks following his lone game this season, but he impressed Carroll enough during a workout on Dec. 30 to avoid being put on injured reserve, which would have ended his season.

The Saints will have to battle more than the Seahawks.  The weather forecast now not only calls for 100% chance of rain, but high winds, with gusts up to more than 50 miles per hour.  That should put an even larger premium on the running game and Mark Ingram in particular.  Ingram has been a far more consistent runner the past few weeks, rushing for 97 yards in last week's playoff win at Philadelphia.  But in the first meeting at Seattle, the Saints rushed for only 44 yards as a team and Drew Brees was held to a season-low 147 yards passing.

If the Saints are able to run the ball effectively, they could control the clock and the crowd, which set a world record for noise in the mast meeting between these teams.
