Water Woes in Mooringsport

Posted: Updated:

Residents in Mooringsport say they've been without water for days and the problem keeps coming back up. If you live in the town of Mooringsport and you've been without water, your water should be back on. This issue seems to only have affected people on the East Cove Water system, which services a small portion of Mooringsport. But those affected by the lack of water say they've had enough.

"We're tired of not having any water, we're sick of it. Other than that we have to do the best we can or go somewhere else to shower and bathe. I have a friend that brought us a 5 gallon cooler full of water, just for us to flush the toilets with." Terri Alexander is one of those residents and she says she's been without running water for at least 2 days in a row. City officials have blamed freezing temps on the latest outage but Alexander says there are other problems with the water even when it's on. "Our water bill runs about $35 dollars a month. You can't drink it. And there's such a strong smell of bleach sometimes, our clothes are getting spotted by this water. Don't even brush our teeth with it, because the water is that bad. We carry all of our water in here, even to cook with, because the water is so nasty."

Alexander says she and everyone else in her community use East Cove Water and the outages and issues date back to September. When the weather gets really cold we're all told to let our faucets drip or run. Mooringsport officials say once everyone started doing that, it depleted their water resources and as a result they had to turn the water off or lower water presser so that the reserves could get back to an operational level. Alexander says she and her neighbors deserve a fix, soon. "Someone isn't doing their job! Just get the water right and keep it on. We're paying for it, so why not get it on and keep it on?"

Mooringsport officials say they're doing the best they can to alleviate any water troubles and a permanent fix should occur once all of Mooringsport is on the same water system.

Here's is their response to what Mooringsport residents can do to help with this issue in the future.

"Due to issues that have occurred regarding the water system the Mayor of Mooringsport, Ann Dearing, is advising that water customers practice preventative maintenance by insulating there water lines and checking prior to weather conditions with freezing temperatures.  They should also be sure to check for leaks once the freeze is over because the warming temperatures will cause water to flow from frozen busted lines and with enough residences with busted lines, that can drain the water storage tanks dry which take several hours to fill.  We are asking that at anytime you see standing water please notify the water department so that it can be checked out to make sure it is not a water leak.  Thank you."

We've been told by many veterans that they receive quality care at the V.A. hospital in Shreveport. But for some getting an appointment to see their caregivers is the challenge. According to our V.A., they do not have a problem getting patients seen quickly - and the numbers they report echo that conclusion. We’ve uncovered concerns, however, over how their numbers look so good - while patients are still waiting to be seen.“Certainly from my viewpoint here, as a veteran, as a physician, the c...
