Tech comings and goings, Sterling performance

Posted: Updated:
RUSTON, La -

Louisiana Tech may have lost two coaches, but is regaining a senior wide receiver.  Sterling Griffin says he's been granted a 6th year of eligibility by the NCAA after having missed most of the 2010 and 2012 seasons at USF due to injuries.  Griffin played at USF under Skip Holtz before transferring to the Bulldogs.

Two coaches have left.  Defensive coordinator Kim Dameron has been named head coach at Eastern Illinois, which is the alma mater of both Tony Romo and Sean Payton.  Tech head coach Skip Holtz issued a statement praising Dameron.  "I am excited for Kim Dameron to get an opportunity as a head football coach at Eastern Illinois and I think he will do a great job there. Kim did a great job here, making tremendous progress with our defense. We were the fourth most-improved defense in the country this past year and that is a credit to what Kim Dameron accomplished at Louisiana Tech. I wish him the best of luck and am excited to see him succeed as a head football coach."

Linebackers coach Jeff Koonz has left for Cincinnati where he rejoins Tommy Tuberville.  Koonz was a graduate assistant for Tuberville at Auburn in 2004 when the Tigers went undefeated.
