Saturday morning fire kills two in Keithville

Posted: Updated:
KEITHVILLE, La. (KTBS) -

Two people are dead following a house fire in Keithville.

The Louisiana State Fire Marshal says Henry Patton, 46, and Tina Lavergne, 47, were found in separate bedrooms of the mobile home on Sparks-Drive Road. Both victims were reportedly sleeping when the fire started. Firefighters and law enforcement arrived at the scene around 4:00 a.m. Saturday.

Fire investigators say that the origin of the fire is suspected to have start at or near the sofa. After interviewing several people close to Henry Patton, investigators learned that Mr. Patton did smoke inside the home. While the cause of the blaze is listed as undetermined, fire investigators believe that a cigarette accidentally left burning, is the possible cause of the fire. We're told that investigators may never know the cause of the fire because the extent of the damage was so severe.

Deputy Chief Brant Thompson says there was no other ignition source such as electrical, etc... Investigators do not suspect foul play and say no suspicious circumstances were found.

According to reports, Tina Lavergne was in town visiting Henry for her birthday. Lavergne sadly passed away on her birthday.

Fire Investigators did not find any smoke alarms inside the home. Anyone who can't afford a smoke alarm is urged to logon to the Louisiana State Fire Marshal's website at www.lasfm.org and fill out an application to receive a free smoke alarm.
