Queen of the Court

The sidelines in Caddo Parish look a little different this season.  For the first time in the Parish's history, a woman is the head coach of a boys basketball team.  While the hiring of Donnita Rogers may seem odd to some, it made perfect sense to the players at Booker T. Washington.  Rogers was formally a gym coach at the high school and her players say they saw her coaching potential in the way she helped her students every day.  As the Lions prepare to tip off district play, both Coach Rogers and her players have seen the benefits of working with each other.  Rogers, the former head coach of Grambling State's women's team, says the boys tend to play more basketball in their free time than the girls, and pick up on her schemes quicker than the girls. Regardless of how other feel about her new job, Coach Rogers says it's just the next challenge in her coaching career.
