Neighbors surprised by former minister Rick Seaton Sr's arrest

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La. -

Former pastor Rick Seaton Sr. is behind bars on sex charges just two years after his son, Rick Seaton Jr., was found guilty in one of Shreveport's most high profile rape cases.

Shreveport Police arrested Seaton Sr. Friday at his Rutherford St. home on a fugitive warrant from Johnson County, Missouri.

Neighbors- who declined to go on camera- tell KTBS 3 News that Seaton was always trying to reach out to the people who lived around him. They say he organized the National Night Out Against Crime block parties and is the kind of person who would give you anything you needed or wanted.

With Seaton's arrest, this Shreveport street has seen its second scandal in as many years.

Neighbors say Rick Seaton Jr. stayed with his father when the former Shreveport city official was tried for the 2010 rape of a drunk teenager. The Seaton son was found guilty and is currently serving out his sentence.

Now the elder Seaton faces his own alleged sex offenses stemming from his time in Missouri. The counts include statutory rape, sodomy, statutory sodomy and sexual misconduct.

The Missouri warrant lists five victims each now in their 20s and 30s, but Shreveport Police say there may be more in the ArkLaTex.

"If there is a crime that was committed here in Shreveport or in Caddo Parish, then we will take the information we gather in the investigative process, and make the determination if additional resources need to be contacted outside of our jurisdiction," SPD Public Information Officer Marcus Hines said.

Seaton is temporarily being held without bond at Caddo Correctional Center, pending extradition. The Missouri authorities set his bond at $500,000 and prohibit Seaton from having contact "with any child under 17 by any means including phone, text, IM, social media or third parties until further order of the court."

According to his website, Rick Seaton Sr. was licensed to preach in 1962 and did so for United Methodist Church around the state of Missouri.

After semi-retiring in 1991, he was appointed to Leeton, Mo. and El Dorado, Mo. churches. The charges stem from his time in Leeton. Seaton's website says he began several programs during this time period, including a youth ministry and after-school program.

Seaton moved to Plain Dealing, La. in 2000 and Shreveport in 2009.
