Remembering Bossier City's Dement Tuesday, funeral will be Wednesday

Posted: Updated:

Friends, family and admirers of former Bossier City Mayor George Dement said their last goodbyes Tuesday afternoon.

Dement's family said he died Sunday morning at his farm in Frierson. He was mayor of Bossier City for more than 15 years.

During his time, he touched many people's lives.

"We miss him, but at the same time, he lived to be almost 92, and the Lord blessed him with a tremendous life," said Rocky Maddox, a family friend. "He has a wonderful legacy, and we're thankful for the life of George Dement."

"He was truly a visionary," said Larry Deen, Bossier Parish Sheriff while Dement was mayor. "He was a visionary that could see the undeveloped product in the developed stage. We'll all miss him so much."

"I've never meet a more people person in my life.  He never saw a stranger and he was friendly, even though I ran against him for mayor and he defeated me, he and I became good friends," said Bossier City Mayor Lorenz Walker.

Another visitation will take place Wednesday morning from 8:30 a.m. until the funeral starts at 10:30 am. at First Baptist Church of Bossier City.

Dement is survived by three sons and a daughter. He would've been 92-years old later this month.

In his honor flags at all Bossier Municipal  buildings are being flown at half staff through Wednesday evening.
