Community remembers former Bossier Mayor George Dement

Posted: Updated:
BOSSIER CITY, La -
The man who guided Bossier City during the biggest boom in its history was laid to rest this morning.  Friends and well wishers paid their last respects to former Mayor George Dement at First Baptist Church of Bossier.

Dement was elected in 1989 and was only the second mayor in Bossier history to serve 4 consecutive terms.  We he left office in 2005, the city was one of the fastest growing in the country.  But it wasn't only his leadership that was remembered this morning.  Most remember his genuine love for people.

Dement served as a cook on the submarine U.S.S. Razorback during World War II.  He later managed the Holiday Inn in Bossier which was named the "Finest in America".

He had five children and the love of his life was his wife of 64 years, Sunshine.

George Dement was 91 years old.  He was laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery in Frierson
