Shreveport symphony rocks back by bringing back some classics

SHREVEPORT, La -

The Shreveport Symphony is making a comeback by bringing back some Classics.  Classics that are creating sold out crowds. The sounds of Led Zepplin  led the way over the weekend for symphony goers.

"We came because they're playing Led Zepplin," said patron Beth Burrows.

It's a different touch to their traditional style in order to help draw in different crowds.  An effort to appeal to a broader base of music fans after the orchestra hit a sour chord in 2008.  IN 2008, they experienced budget problems and a performer strike shut them down.

Executive Director Lois Robinson says now they're on an upswing by offering different musical combinations for different age groups. A move, which appears to be working. The Zepplin show rocked during a sold out show.

"I think they should do both honestly. Stick with the Classics and try to bring in some new young people, " said patron Christopher O'Brien.

Symphony officials say they plan to mix the old with the new in hopes of appealing to a bigger group of fans.

They say they're able to do that after overcoming tough times and focusing on a few key areas such as better money management, improved artist relations and more performances. Officials say they're almost as strong as they were before the orchestra went black years ago.

"I think it's a wonderful idea especially for people who enjoy music and want to expand their horizons with different kinds of music, " said patron Sara Beth Burrows.

The Riverview Theater holds 1,725 people.

We've been told by many veterans that they receive quality care at the V.A. hospital in Shreveport. But for some getting an appointment to see their caregivers is the challenge. According to our V.A., they do not have a problem getting patients seen quickly - and the numbers they report echo that conclusion.
