Natchitoches plays after rare southern snow fall

Posted: Updated:
NATCHITOCHES, La. (KTBS) -

It looked just a like Christmas card in Natchitoches on Friday.

The buildings on Northwestern State University's campus were covered in snow. Classes were canceled and most students took advantage of the off day and slept in.

But not Danielle Rhine.

"I think I'm just a really big kid at heart," she said. "We have an Australian Shepard and she loves the snow. It's just a lot of fun to come out and relive your childhood days and play in the snow."

Natchitoches students had the day off of school and play they did. They had snow ball fights, road four-wheelers through the powdery snow, even made snow angels..

"It's freezing and my butt is very cold," said Reagan Smith.

She and her family drove more than an hour in from Chatham to see the snow in Natchitoches.

"I'm so surprised it actually stuck, much less we'd get to play in it and build snowmen," said Katie Truett, Smith's family member. "It's awesome."

A drive well worth the time on a rare southern snow day, and memories most of us will never forget.
